The One Health Students’ Club at Jimma University organized a community outreach activity on solid waste management in Bosa kito & Hermata Kebele of Jimma Town on 4th June 2016. The sessions were delivered to 120 model families in both kebele (wards). The One Health Students’ Club members delivered an awareness session on solid waste management in collaboration with the health extension workers in both places. Dr Seid Tiku, from Jimma University College of Health Sciences Department of Environmental Health and Dr Hailu Degefu, from School of Veterinary Medicine led the students as mentors both groups in the two kebeles.

This awareness session is expected to contribute to raising the knowledge of model families in the kebele regarding scientific solid waste management techniques. This will likely contribute to the efforts being made to prevent infectious diseases in the community.
