Because of the increasing trend in diseases that result from animal-human-environment interactions, there is a new global paradigm of doing things

together to solve health challenges. Multidisciplinary individuals with transformative knowledge and ability to prevent and mitigate risks at the

animal-human-ecosystems interface are needed in order to achieve “One Health”. Under Makerere University, the One Health Central and Eastern Africa (OHCEA) network of fourteen Public Health and Veterinary Higher Education Institutions located in seven countries in the Eastern

and Central Africa region is calling for applications for the One Health Institute Fellowship.


Funding & Support:

The One Health Institute (OHI) Fellowship is a multidisciplinary, experiential training, and mentorship training model where Fellows will be given high level placements in order to acquire competences in One Health approaches to problem solving. As part of the Fellowship, Fellows will attend the OHI theoretical classes for three weeks, on weekends (Saturday & Sunday) from 22nd April to 20th May 2017, This will be followed have two months placements, and one week of final presentations. Fellows will be attached to organizations where theywill be mentored in outbreak investigation, contact tracing and follow up, data collection and analysis, writing and publication skills, etc. The fellows will be assigned two mentors to oversee their competency acquisition.



Compulsory in-class theoretical training on weekends from 22nd April to 20th May 2017 and subsequent fellowship placement for 2 months in June and July 2017 with continuous assessment to qualify for the certificate


Target participants:

The applicants targeted are Makerere University fulltime graduate students in their second year with great potential for leadership, previous demonstrable contribution to multi-disciplinary work approaches and a vested interest in positively contributing to, and  advancing, the emerging field of One Health


Who should apply?

Students of Makerere University

• Currently enrolled on a fulltime graduate program in Makerere University from any of the fields of: Social Sciences, Public Health, Mass communication, IT, Veterinary, Nursing, Law, Human Medicine, Agriculture, Environment, Business and Laboratory Sciences.

• Age should not exceed 38 years for men and 40 years for women by September 30th, 2017

• Fluent in English communication (listening, speaking, writing, and understanding)

• Have a letter of recommendation from his/her academic supervisor

• Fully available for theoretical training on Saturdays & Sundays (22ndApril- 20th May) and placement period June-July).
