Because of the increasing trend in diseases that result from animal-human-environment interactions, there is a new global paradigm of

doing things together to solve health challenges. Multidisciplinary individuals with transformative knowledge and ability to prevent and mitigate risks at the animal-human-ecosystems interface

are needed in order to achieve “One Health”. Under Makerere University, the One Health Central and Eastern Africa (OHCEA) network of fourteen Public Health and Veterinary Higher Education Institutions located in seven countries in the Eastern and Central Africa region is calling for applications for the One Health Institute (OHI)


Field Attachment.

One Health Institute Field Attachment The One Health Institute attachment is a multidisciplinary, experiential joint training in community engagement concerning

assessment of infectious disease threats. As part of the program, successful applicants will attend weekend OHI theoretical classes on weekends (Saturday & Sunday) from 22nd April to 20th May 2017, followed by 28 days of field placements during the month of July. Students will be attached to the different One Health Field attachment sites in Uganda. Field activities will involve site visits, community education and awareness campaigns and home visits. The students will present their findings to the University.

Participants will be facilitated by OHCEA to complete the training and attachment


Target participants:

The applicants targeted are Makerere University undergraduate students who are currently in their final semester of their final year and recent 1st degree graduates (February 2017 graduation) of Makerere University with great potential for leadership, ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and a vested interest in advancing, the emerging field of One Health.


Who should apply?

• (1) Undergraduate Makerere University finalist students

• (2) Recent 1st degree graduates of Makerere University (February 2017 graduation).

• The fields of Social Sciences, Public Health, Mass Communication, IT, Veterinary, Nursing, Law, Human Medicine, Agriculture, Environment, Business, Laboratory Sciences and other Health Sciences will be strongly considered.

• Fluent in English communication (listening, speaking, writing, and understanding).

• Have a letter of recommendation from his/heracademic supervisor.

• Fully available for theoretical training on Saturdays & Sundays (22ndApril- 20th May) and Site placement (July 2017).
