About this Team Member

Dr. Irene Naigaga is a Wildlife Veterinarian with over 15 years of experience lecturing in the Department of Wildlife and Aquatic Animal Resources, in the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Biosecurity, Makerere University. She holds a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Postgraduate Diploma in Wildlife Health and Management of Makerere University; a Master of Science and a Doctor of Ichthyology (PhD) of Rhodes University, South Africa where she specializing in Aquatic Ecosystem Health.She has experience working on a number of international capacity building networks such as Training and Research in Aquatic and Environmental Health in Africa (TRAHESA); Sub-Saharan Africa Water Resource Network (SSAWRN) under the Regional Initiative for Science and Education (RISE) and Higher Education Resource Services East Africa (HERS-East Africa) where she also sits on the Board as an alumni representative. She supervised masters and Doctoral students funded by the networks. She also represented the Makerere University node at the RISE-SSAWRN and TRAHESA national, regional and international meetings; and oversaw collaboration with key stakeholders.Dr. Naigaga currently serves as Regional Program Manager for One Health Central and Eastern Africa (OHCEA), a network of 24 institutions of public health, veterinary, global health, environmental sciences and pathobiology in eight countries in East, Central and West Africa. She started working with OHCEA is 2014 as Focal Person at the OHCEA Uganda Country Secretariat before joining the Regional Secretariat as Regional Manager Technical in 2016.
